Dr. Stephanie Linnell

Stephanie graduated from Heriot‑Watt University in 2016 with a first-class MChem Chemistry with Industrial Experience. For her year in industry, she worked as a materials chemist, studying the role of ‘dissolved’ oxygen in solid silver and the implications of this on the thermal etching. In her final year she investigated oxide‑based thermoelectrics for high temperature conversion applications under the supervision of Dr. Jan-Willem Bos.

Stephanie decided to pursue her interests in energy materials and in 2016 she joined the research group of Prof. John Irvine. Her PhD research involved the exploration of a series of vanadium sulfates as positive electrodes for rechargeable batteries. She prepared materials using a range of synthetic methods and processed them to optimise their electrochemical performance. Stephanie used a range of techniques to determine the structural evolution, vanadium oxidation state changes and insertion pathways of these vanadium sulfates.

In June 2020, Stephanie joined the research group of Dr. Robert Armstrong and started as a Postdoctoral Researcher as part of The Faraday Institution NEXGENNA sodium‑ion battery project, exploring the oxygen redox activity in P3-type materials.
