Dr. Mainul Akhtar

Research Fellow

Mainul obtained his undergraduate degree in Ceramic Technology from Govt. College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology, India in 2012. He then received his joint master’s and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India in 2021.

As a doctoral student in Prof. Subhasish Basu Majumder’s research group, he worked on manganese spinel, and phosphate-based cathodes and titanate-based anodes for all rechargeable alkali-ion (Li, Na) batteries and supercapacitors. He later joined the research group of Prof. Dr. Matteo Bianchini as a postdoctoral fellow at University of Bayreuth, Germany in 2022. There he focused on the synthesis, structural and electrochemical characterisation of high-voltage oxy-fluorophosphate cathodes for Na-ion batteries.

Currently, he is working on high energy low cost layered oxide cathodes for Na-ion batteries as a part of Faraday Institution’s NEXGENNA project under the supervision of Dr. Robert Armstrong at University of St. Andrews, UK.
